Tucked into the hills of Kent, Connecticut, Mountain View Farm has been part of the landscape since the 1700s. In the late 1800s, the LaFontan family’s ancestors ran the property as both a working farm and a boarding house — a dual legacy of hospitality and agriculture that still shapes how the farm operates today.
A Family Legacy, Grown Organically
Today, Mountain View Farm is owned and operated by farmers Maria and Vincent LaFontan, who have carried the land’s history forward as a Certified Organic vegetable and fruit farm (certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers). For Maria and Vincent, honoring this land means farming it with care — and that means organic, through and through.
Influenced by organic pioneers like Rudolf Steiner and Eliot Coleman, the LaFontans believe deeply that organic practices produce the healthiest food while giving back to the land itself. It’s a philosophy that shows in everything they grow — and everything their community gets to enjoy.
What’s Growing at Mountain View Farm
Mountain View Farm offers something in nearly every season:
- Year-round: Farm-fresh eggs
- Spring: Maple syrup, a full range of spring greens, and a large selection of organic heirloom tomato plants and other vegetable transplants
- Summer: Peas, beets, beans, squash, heirloom tomatoes, garlic, shallots, potatoes, and more
- Fruit: Rhubarb, blueberries, peaches, pears, raspberries, elderberries, and currants
- Fall: A full selection of USDA-certified free-range pork cuts

Mountain View Farm’s on-site farm stand is open March through November, and you can also find them as a vendor at the New Milford Farmers Market and the Kent Farmers Market.
